At the Emmett shoot yesterday a lot of folks were interested in the new hammers that I now have on my Vaqueros. Since the new SASS handbook came out you can now use (legally) Super Blackhawk hammers in your Blackhawk’s or Vaquero’s. I ordered mine from Brownells part number 780-012-040 the description of this part is Super Blackhawk hammer assembly. It is a completely drop in part for the old (read large frame) Vaquero’s. It is my understanding that if you have a new (read smaller frame) Vaquero you will need to install a hammer assembly from the Ruger Montado. Anyway, the SBH hammer is a lot lower and I don’t have to shift my grip to cock the hammer with my thumb. The SBH hammer allows me to keep a better grip on my revolver and gives me better overall control.
